To create new automotive technologies that can be valued by manufacturers
Identify and develop biomimetic innovations on high-potential parts

Context
Bionnov intervened with one of the business units of the French leader in automotive equipment to identify parts that could benefit from significant performance improvements through biomimetic innovation.
Two major issues were targeted: acoustics/vibration and engine part cooling — two strategic challenges to remain competitive against manufacturers.
Goals
Train teams in Bioxegy's biomimetic approach to rapid ideation
Target and prioritize the problems that can benefit from a biomimetic approach
To propose preliminary concepts and an effective action plan for developing them
Key topics explored
Acoustics and vibration reduction
Bio-inspired cooling of engine parts
Structural optimization and lightweight design
Customer
Leading automotive supplier in France — Confidential client

Achievements
- Upstream analysis by Bionnov: evaluation of the eligibility of around twenty use cases for biomimetic R&D processes
- Identification of an initial list of biological pre-concepts
- Workshop with the client's teams: training in the biomimetic design thinking approach
- Ideation of a second set of concepts with the client's experts
- Estimating the added value of pre-concepts compared to the state of the art
- Evaluation of the industrial relevance of the selected pre-concepts: resources, time horizon, constraints of the manufacturer's specifications
Deliverables
Two biomimetic approaches to solving the two key problems (acoustics and cooling)
Proposal for a study to create a demonstrator on the most relevant topic
Complete documentation of all pre-concepts identified during the study
