Phase 1: Preliminary biomimetic study

Objective – TRL 1 to 3
Identify and explore biomimetic solutions to address one or more industrial problems.
Phase 1 aims to select the most promising concept for the development of a high-performance technological solution.

Timeline – 3 to 6 months
Bionnov conducts the study almost autonomously after the project was launched.
A mid-term workshop allows for prioritizing biomimetic approaches with the partner and formalizing a pre-concept for Phase 2.

Deliverables
Depending on the project's objectives, Phase 1 may result in:

a well-reasoned technical note,
biomimetic pre-concepts,
pre-dimensioning validated by simulations (finite elements, CFD).

Phase 2: Advanced Biomimetic Design Study

Objective – TRL 3 to 4
Continue the development of a biomimetic technology identified as promising in Phase 1.
Phase 2 aims to demonstrate and precisely characterize the performance of the concept in an industrial context defined with the partner.

Timeline – 4 to 12 months
The process is adapted to the project objectives and the mode of collaboration.
Bionnov carries out modeling and simulation work, with pilot workshops. Experimental studies can be conducted with the partner's teams or academic partners.

Deliverables
Depending on the maturity level/technology studied, Phase 2 may result in:

advanced modeling and simulations,
algorithms or formulations,
early prototypes or experimental plans,
benchmarks of solutions or partners.

Phase 3: Proof-of-Concept (POC), Experimental Project

Objective – TRL 5 to 6
Adapt the development to the project objectives and the industrial context of the partner.
Phase 3 generally aims to achieve a proof of concept (POC) and, where appropriate, initial industrial demonstrators of a successful biomimetic technology.

Stages – 3 to 18 months
The process is defined on a case-by-case basis with the partner, depending on the project's challenges.
Bionnov ensures the continuity of R&D work and supports the transition towards the industrialization of the biomimetic concept.
